Manali Like a Local: Best Secret Cafés, Bakeries & Sunset Knolls
Most tourists visit Manali and only see Mall Road traffic, overcrowded selfie points, and overpriced souvenir shops. But Manali has two faces. If you walk 15 minutes uphill past the old Hadimba forest into the back alleys of Old Manali, you enter a tranquil mountain village where apple trees hang over wooden balconies, bakeries smell of fresh cinnamon rolls, and local musicians play acoustic tunes by the river. ### Rahul's 3 Favorite Secret Spots: 1. **The Cedar Walk to Jogini:** Instead of taking a taxi to Vashisht, start walking from the old bridge along the pine canal. The waterfall hike is gentle and pristine. 2. **Naggar Castle Terrace at 4:30 PM:** Sit on the wooden balcony of Naggar Castle with a cup of spiced tea and watch the sun dip behind the Pir Panjal range. 3. **The Hidden Orchard Café:** Ask Rahul for the coordinates to a secluded garden café tucked away in Naggar where apples literally drop from the ceiling onto the grass.
